In the third edition in 2023 of the contest, 134 people took part, creating 46 teams from 23 countries – representatives of 21 European universities. The subject was the relationship between money supply and the S&P500 index.

The winner of the contest was team GIGANTYCZNE FRYTY: Robert Kowalczyk, Jarosław Leski, Dawid Lubiński, and Daniel Śliwiński.

In second place was the team DOMINANTY – Ewa Dobrowolska, Dominika Miętek, Katarzyna Piotrowska, and Marta Saciuk.

Third place was the KMO TEAM: Adam Janczyszyn, Hubert Wojewoda, Jakub Wujec and Jakub Żmujdzin.

The organizers of the contest decided to award three distinctions to the teams:

  • GRADIENT DESCENDANTS: Ahmed Abdelmaksoud, Jakub Bandurski, Jan Frąckowiak, and Maciej Lorens,
  • STATISTICAL SAVANTS – Daniel Chrościcki, Stanisław Gajda, Tymoteusz Muter, Wojciech Szczypek,
  • and ZALIA BALTA – Žygimantas Bogužas, Tomas Dzedulionis, Airida Lipskaitė, and Gerda Utakytė.

Warsaw Econometric Challenge is a contest dedicated to undergraduate and graduate students. The contest aims to write a scientific paper in 24 hours in teams consisting of max. 4 participants.

The third edition of the contest was organized jointly by the Faculty of Economic Sciences and High Tech Foundation. The organizers of the contest were researchers from the Faculty of Economic Sciences: Marcin Chlebus, Ph.D., Jacek Lewkowicz, Ph.D., Rafał Woźniak, Ph.D., and prof. Piotr Wójcik.


Piotr Wójcik was a purser on this flight and welcomed all 93 passengers on board of our aircraft WEC2 (Warsaw Econometric Challenge, 2nd edition) in the 24-hour data science journey.

The participants represented 28 teams from 6 leading Polish universities.

Our two captains – prof. Gabriela Grotkowska, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics Sciences and Michał Fijoł, Chief Commercial Officer and the Member of Board of LOT Polish Airlines – wished our passengers a good flight 😉.

Marcin Chlebus presented the safety features of our aircraft and gave some recommendations.

The use of laptops and other electronic devices was highly recommended throughout the whole flight!

The jury wished for no unexpected turbulences and hoped for all teams to land safely tomorrow with great solutions to our task.

The second edition in 2022 was won by the team KMO Team.
The team was composed of Adam Janczyszyn, Hubert Wojewoda, Jakub Wujec, and Jakub Żmujdzin.

The second place took the team Wybrzeże Klatki Schodowej.
The team was composed of Stanisław Gajda, Tymoteusz Muter, Daniel Chrościcki, and Wojciech Szczypek.

The third place (ex aequo) took the team DAMA.
The team was composed of Daria Orlińska, Anna Kruk, Magdalena Grabowska, and Aleksandra Bałamut.
The third place (ex aequo) took the team Lotne Chłopaki.
The team composed of Mateusz Szysz, Radosław Jawor, Hubert Drążkowski, and Mateusz Marzec.

The first edition of the contest took place on April 24th, 2021. This edition was organized for the students of the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of Warsaw.

17 students representing 5 teams participated in the contest. The goal was to elaborate on a hypothesis that people’s moods are the worst in February using a panel data set. Music consumption was used to quantify seasonal misery. The participants were offered basic measures of weather conditions (temperature and percentage of the sky hidden behind clouds).

The first edition in 2021 was won by the team Totalne Kozaki.
The team was composed of Mateusz Kijewski, Szymon Lis, Michał Woźniak, and Maciej Wysocki.
